About Karl

Karl is our chief instructor here at SSFA.  He has over fifteen years of teaching and coaching experience, holds the ASA Level 2 Teacher/Coach qualification and is a Fellow of the Institute of Swimming.

Karl began his swimming career passing his Assistant Teacher course at the age of 19.  He quickly found he loved teaching both children and adults to swim and realised how much satisfaction both he and his pupils gained from it.  Having learned the ropes as an Assistant Teacher he gained his ASA Level 2 qualification before going abroad to set up the template for Sunsail UK's Swim Schools in the Mediterranean.  On his return he teamed up with Head Coach Dave Terry at the City of Southampton Swimming Club in an Assistant Coach capacity whilst taking over Head Coach responsibilities for the Disability Squad.

Having to relocate to Oxfordshire meant Karl leaving his post with COSSC and after a venture back into Leisure Management set up Swim Solutions For All.

In his swimming career Karl has taught and coached every level from complete beginners through to National Class swimmers, GB Triathletes and former Paralympians.

Swim Solutions For All was formed in August 2009 with a view to providing a high quality and consistent programme of teaching and coaching for both children and adults from Faringdon and the surrounding areas.  During his time in leisure management, Karl was disappointed with the level of instruction he occasionally saw and the inability in many situations to provide a consistent teacher, many times seeing children turn up for weekly one to ones with a different instructor each week.  Many parents have since commented that this one of Swim Solutions For All's many strengths in that Karl can build up a rapport with the children and can plan a progressive structure of lessons that are specific to the needs of the individual.  Some of these comments can be viewed on the testimonials page.  Karl took it upon himself to form the company in partnership with Soll Leisure to provide a consistently high level of teaching and coaching at Faringdon Leisure Centre alongside the good job the teachers at the centre were also doing.  With the main focus of SSFA being individual lessons and coaching, many children benefitted from the extra availability of times and days being offered whereas many of the Soll Leisure teachers were unable to take on private lessons due to their group lesson commitments.  Many children have since been recommended to Karl for instruction due to the lack of time available by other teachers, many times returning to group lessons at a higher stage with their previous teacher after gaining a boost from one to ones.

In October 2010, Karl accepted the position of squad coach with Witney and District Swimming Club with a view to developing the children to their highest potential whether it be County, Regional or National level.  Karl resigned his post in December 2011 in order to take up a post as Swimming Head Coach for the Defence Academy Triathlon Club based out of Shrivenham, providing three group sessions a week ranging from coaching beginners to top ten placed World and European championship triathletes.

Since then, Karl has gained his Level 2 British Triathlon coaching qualification and expanded coaching sessions to include group cycling and running sessions in Faringdon and Abingdon.

The list of honours has continued to increase by those coached by Karl to include county and regional qualifications and medals in swimming by juniors and two adults qualifying for the World Masters championships and national championships, World Championship medals from sprint distance through to Long Distance in Triathlon.
